How to Properly Add Antifreeze to the Laser Welding Machine?
Dec 25, 2023A.Antifreeze Selection
There are various types of antifreeze available in the market. It is recommended to use Clariant's Antifrogen N antifreeze. Clariant antifreeze is a light yellow liquid.
B.Mixing Ratios
The recommended ratio for Clariant antifreeze is 3:7 (30% antifreeze, 70% distilled water or deionized water), providing protection against freezing down to -20°C.
For local temperatures of -42°C to -45°C: 6:4 (60% antifreeze, 40% distilled water or deionized water)
For local temperatures of -32°C to -35°C: 5:5 (50% antifreeze, 50% distilled water or deionized water)
For local temperatures of -22°C to -25°C: 4:6 (40% antifreeze, 60% distilled water or deionized water)
For local temperatures of -12°C to -15°C: 3:7 (30% antifreeze, 70% distilled water or deionized water)
For local temperatures of -2°C to -5°C: 2:8 (30% antifreeze, 70% distilled water or deionized water)
C.Operating Procedure
Power off laser welding equipment (water cooler, laser, etc.), open the drain valve of the water cooler to empty the water tank, then rinse the tank with water and drain it. Remove and clean the filter elements of the water cooler's filter and the laser's water inlet filter, then reinstall them. Mix the pre-determined ratio of antifreeze and distilled water or deionized water in a container, stir well, and then pour it into the water cooler's tank. (Do not pour directly into the water cooler to prevent insufficient dissolution of antifreeze, which may cause particulate matter to block the filters.)
D.Precautions
No antifreeze can completely replace distilled water or deionized water and should not be used continuously throughout the year. After winter, the system must be flushed with deionized water or purified water, especially the filters of the water cooler and laser's water inlet, and then switch back to distilled water or deionized water as the coolant. If the fiber laser welding machine will be idle for an extended period (such as during the Spring Festival shutdown) or before transporting the laser, drain the cooling water from the system. Use compressed air to blow out any remaining water in the laser welding machine (including the laser and water cooler) to prevent internal freezing and damage to components.
